New to the Haven Chronicles? Start Here.

If you’ve just discovered my books and are wondering where to start, you’re in the right place. This post is here to help you get your bearings. You’ll find out what kind of series the Haven Chronicles is, how the books fit together, and whether they’re your kind of read. This guide will grow as I add more books to the series.
What kind of series is the Haven Chronicles?
The Haven Chronicles is written for a teen audience, from just past middle grade through to young adult. Having said that, plenty of grown-ups have enjoyed reading these books too.
The series is best described as futuristic fantasy. It blends magic, robots, and all kinds of mythical beasties with fast-paced adventure that rarely gives the characters a chance to sit down.
If you take a look at book reviews of the series, you’ll find love for:
- the characters (especially Hartley Keg)
- the mix of science fiction and fantasy
- the ever growing world of magic alongside futuristic cities
What the Haven Chronicles definitely isn’t is dark fantasy, romance, or horror. While the stories may get scary at times, they’re always grounded in hope, friendship, and discovering where you belong.
What is the Haven Chronicles series about?
The Haven Chronicles series follows Steve Haven, a young boy growing up in a high-tech, robot-filled world who discovers that magic exists alongside the technology he’s always known.
When Steve becomes entangled in a race to stop a collection of powerful mystical devices from falling into the wrong hands, he’s drawn into a hidden world of magical communities, secret histories, and long-buried truths.
With each book, Steve learns more about his family’s connection to magic and begins to understand who he really is and where he belongs.
What’s the reading order of the series?
The Haven Chronicles is best read in order because the story builds from one book to the next. The current reading order is:
- Haven Wakes
- Magic Bound
- Haven’s Deceit
The series is ongoing with more books planned. I’ll update this list as new titles are released.
If you’d like a bit more detail on why the series works best in order, I’ve written a separate post about that here.
Where to find the books
The Haven Chronicles books are available in both paperback and ebook formats.
If you’d like signed copies, you can buy the paperbacks direct from my Ko-fi shop, where they’re bundled up with printed and hand-made bookmarks.
If you prefer digital reads, the ebooks are available on Amazon.
Unsigned paperbacks can also be found through all the usual book outlets, including your local book shop.
Is the series finished?
No. The Haven Chronicles is an ongoing series with five books planned in total. Each instalment has its own story arc and builds on Steve’s larger journey across the series.
I’m currently writing book four. While there isn’t a confirmed publication date just yet, the story is very much in progress.
Who is this series for?
The Haven Chronicles won’t be for every fantasy reader, but it’s a good fit if you:
- enjoy found family stories
- like magical systems that come with real consequences
- want adventure without grimness
- are drawn to fantasy with a modern edge
- enjoy character-driven fiction
If you like fantasy that balances adventure with heart, there’s a good chance you’ll feel at home with this series.
