What you can expect from me in 2025

I’m firmly ensconced in the new year and back at my desk, so I thought it was time to tell you about my plan for 2025. And yes, it’s a writerly one, which I’m sure you were expecting. Here’s what I’ll be getting up to over the next twelve months.

Writing

Like I said, my plan for the year is writerly so there’ll be lots of creative writing.

Book Four of the Haven Chronicles

With each book I’ve released, my writing speed has improved and the gaps between book launches have reduced. While I’m still not a mega-speedy, ‘write a first draft in a month’ kind of author, I’m definitely on target to finish book four of my futuristic fantasy series in 2025.

I started writing the fourth instalment in 2024 and it’s been wonderful to return to well-loved characters like Steve, Hartley, and the darkling. I don’t want to drop too many spoilers but I’m going to make them all suffer (and run around) even more in book four. There’ll be new faces and old, both good and bad (and somewhere in between).

Book Five of the Haven Chronicles

While I write book four, I’ll plan out book five of the Haven Chronicles. This will be the final instalment of the series and a little different to the books that have gone before. It’s a bigger storyline, with a whole lot more at stake.

Companion Short Stories

With each book I write, I find more and more characters, locations, and back stories that I want to revisit. That’s why I want to write a number of Darkacre short stories in 2025. The plan is to combine them into a Haven Chronicles companion collection. With one short story and a novella already written (The Hidden Knowing and A Shadow Falls in Darkacre), I feel I’m off to a good start already.

Reading and Reviewing

You can’t have a writerly year without an element of readerly too. My to-be-read pile rarely shrinks so I’ve plenty to dive into this year. I set myself a target of twelve books in 2024 and read 16. In 2025, I want to read and review at least 20 books.

So far this year, I’ve read and reviewed Blackbirch The Dark Half by K M Allan and Nicotine, Liquor, & Blasphemy by Richard Wall. Right now, I’m reading Five Percent Alien by Suzanna Williams. After that, I’ll be digging into River Witch by Cheryl Burman, Minstrel’s Bargain by Richard Ayre, and Caraval by Stephanie Garber.

More of the Same

In 2025, I’ll still be writing a blog post each month and sending out my monthly author newsletter. I’ll also be sharing my journey on Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, and Kofi. Some things just don’t change.
